Locknet Expands Data Centers

Posted by: Locknet

La Crosse, WI – Locknet, a leading IT services provider, announced that it has completed an extensive upgrade of its data centers, adding capacity to its La Crosse facility and its redundant facility in Caledonia, Minn.

Upgrades include improvements to the surveillance and environmental monitoring systems, additional battery backup systems, expansion of clustered virtual server environments, and a six terabyte expansion to the both backup data vaults.  Much of the upgrade is a result of the rapid increase in demand for remote backup and recovery services.  “The growth in corporate data today is astounding,” says Ben Potaracke, director of information technology at Locknet.  “Typical businesses are not set up to store, backup and then recover all of this data using in-house resources, and companies are looking for reliable solutions.”

Locknet’s fully managed remote backup and recovery service makes enterprise-level solutions available to the small-to-medium business sector at a fraction of the cost of bringing this equipment and expertise in-house.  Demand for backup data storage is increasing as businesses create more data (think email, transaction records, inventory, customer information) and as information security regulations increase.

According to research firm IDC, the amount of digital information created and copied was 161 billion gigabytes in 2006—equal to approximately three million times the information in all the books ever written.  IDC estimates that the amount of information created and copied in 2010 will surge more than six-fold to 988 billion gigabytes.

“We are implementing our predicated expansion plan a full year and a half ahead of expectations,” Potaracke said. “There is significant demand right now.”

The data vault expansions leverage the latest NetApp storage technology for greater capacity and redundancy, as well as faster transmission speeds.

The La Crosse and Caledonia centers are located on separate power grids and feature redundant internet connections and power failover resources. Both are equipped with environmental controls as well as advanced physical and network security measures, including Locknet’s nFire network security systems at the gateways.  Both facilities are have also been accredited for security and compliance by the MSPAlliance of Chico, CA.

The data centers are monitored 24x7 and fully managed by Locknet’s certified engineering teams, supporting mission-critical data storage applications with round the clock security.
