Real Downtime - Real Help
Client: Stansfield Vending
IT Challenge:
Stansfield Vending was battling increasing network downtime because they shared
its application server with other servers. They needed a change – they
needed Locknet. “In the past, we had to reboot domain controllers weekly
and troubleshoot numerous network connectivity problems. We haven’t
needed to reboot since the implementation of Windows Server 2008 from Locknet,”
said Stansfield Vending CEO, Julie Stansfield Nordeen.
Stansfield Vending, one of the Midwest’s leading vending machine suppliers,
has one main office and two branches. The main office has seven servers, with
46 workstations relying on them daily. Six servers were running Microsoft
Server 2003, while another, used for terminal services, ran Windows 2000 Server.
Stansfield Vending needed to stabilize its application server, which co-existed
on the same computer as DNS and DHCP servers. The DNS and DHCP servers frequently
overloaded the application server. Stansfield Vending needed stability in
their network and sound communication between the two branches. It was also
important to minimize the number of managed servers as well as transition the roles
of each server to maximize performance.
Stansfield called Locknet.
Locknet:
Locknet knew that Stansfield Vending was already familiar with Windows Server System,
the decision to upgrade one of its servers to Windows Server 2008 to handle DNS
and DHCP services was relatively easy. Locknet looked for a reliable solution
that would provide Stansfield Vending a new platform for integration and that would
also provide some prescriptive guidance for next steps in the evolution of system.
The Locknet team was aided in its installation by Server Manager on Intel multi-core
computers. The deployment was quick and Server Manager also made post-deployment
monitoring easy. Tools such as Initial Configuration Tasks, Sever Manager
Console, Add Roles Wizard and Add Role Services were all used in Server Manager.
With the help of Locknet, the Stanfield Vending application server was free and
able to withstand the load of a growing company.
